Introduction Our capacity to generate and record data has increased tremendously over the last decade. Discovering interesting yet hidden patterns in this mountain of data is called Data Mining. There are not many books that give a brief yet pertinent introduction of Data Mining, this book endeavors to fill this gap, and strengthens it by also providing a detailed case study using real data.

After obtaining my B.Sc. Electrical Engineering (with honors) from the Univ. of Engineering & Technology Lahore, I worked as Asst. Engineer at the Directorate of Nuclear Power Islamabad. After obtaining S&T Scholarship on National merit, I then proceeded to USA and did my MSc in Computer Engineering and then MSc in Computer Sciences from the University of Southern California, Los Angeles, USA.

After returning to Pakistan, I joined  National University of Sciences & Technology (NUST) in 1992 as Assistant Director MIS and founding member and in 1998, joined Systems Research as Marketing Manager. In 1998 I joined Fauji Foundation Institute of Management & Computer Sciences as founding member, Assistant Professor and Manager Student Affairs.

In 2000 I joined FAST National University as Assoc. Prof. In 2003 I established the Center for Agro-Informatics Research and in 2004 started my PhD  from the University of Stirling, Scotland UK and in 2005 was hired by the Virtual University of Pakistan for video recording of Data Warehousing lectures. In 2006 I won a Rs. 30.58 million project for establishing an Agri Data Warehouse. In 2007 I completed my PhD and in 2008 I was promoted to the post of Professor.
